Now there is something that you should know about the people of Barra: they all speak English, but they also speak another language called Gaelic. If they talked to you or me, they would talk in English, but when they talk to each other, they speak in Gaelic, and only people from the islands can really understand. Annie and I might sound funny to you with our strange Scottish accents, but people who speak Gaelic sound even funnier.
The day after I arrived, I went to visit Annie's friend Marion, who lives on the island. I cycled round to her house, and she invited me in for a cup of tea.
Marion's family have two dogs called Scott and Rover. They are sheepdogs. That means that they help the farmer look after his sheep. It can be hard for a farmer to look after lots of sheep and move them into the fields. The sheepdogs are fast and nimble though, and can guide the sheep to the right place, so they help the farmer out.
