When we were having tea in Marion's house, Scott the sheepdog came in, and was being all friendly. He sat at my feet and let me stroke his black and white fur. Then he gave me a paw. Then he got up and started licking my face! "She-ash!", Marion said. And Scott stopped licking my face, and sat like a nice dog. Then I realised - the dogs spoke Gaelic too!
Obviously the dogs didn't actually speak in Gaelic, because dogs can't talk. They just bark like regular dogs. But they understand things in Gaelic because that's how people talk to them. So the dogs knew words that I didn't. Isn't that unusual?
When Marion had said "She-ash" the dog knew that this meant "get down", and so it did.
Later on when Marion said "Mach, Scott!", Scott went outside to play in the yard with Rover. I think that "mach" must mean "outside". What do you think?
